Biserica şi-a manifestat întotdeauna grija faţă de cei care au plecat în veşnicie, consacrându-le ziua de sâmbătă pentru pomenirea generală a morţilor, dar în special, sâmbăta dinaintea Înfricoşătoarei Judecăţi, Sâmbăta Rusaliilor şi prima sâmbătă a lunii noiembrie sunt rânduite pentru pomenirea moşilor şi strămoşilor noştri cei din veac adormiţi, zile care poartă denumirea de moşii de iarnă, moşii de vară şi moşii de toamnă.
Încă din vremea Sfinţilor Apostoli, după cum mărturiseşte Sfântul Ioan Gură de Aur, se ţineau zile de pomenire a strămoşilor adormiţi în speranţa fericirii veşnice. Astfel de zile pot fi identificate în jurul secolului al VI-lea, când s-a făcut fixarea definitivă a pericopelor biblice citite în cursul anului bisericesc.
În privinţa aceasta găsim rugăciuni alcătuite pentru sufletele celor morţi şi în Evhologhiul lui Serapion de Thmuis (Egipt) din secolul al IV-lea, în care se spune: „Te rugăm Dumnezeule şi pentru cei adormiţi, a căror pomenire s-a făcut, sfinţeşte aceste suflete, căci tu pe toate le cunoşti; sfinţeşte-i pe cei adormiţi în Domnul şi numără-i cu puterile Tale cele sfinte (îngerii) şi dă-le lor şi sălăşluire întru împărăţia Ta”.
Despre obiceiul de a face rugăciuni de mijlocire pentru cei morţi găsim menţionări la Sfinţii Părinţi şi Scriitori bisericeşti din secolul al II-lea, la Sfântul Ignatie al Antiohiei, Tertulian, Sfântul Ciprian al Cartaginei, apoi începând cu secolul al IV-lea mărturiile devin numeroase, dintre cei mai importanţi Sfinţi Părinţi putem menţiona pe Sfântul Ioan Gură de Aur.
Ierarhul antiohian definindu-l pe om drept „împrumut cu dobândă vremelnică a vieţii: datorie fără amânare a morţii” îi arată efemeritatea, căci el este „astăzi în bogăţie, mâine în mormânt. Astăzi îmbrăcat cu profir, iar mâine dus la mormânt”.
„Astăzi în multe avuţii, iar mâine în coşciug. Astăzi cu cei ce-l linguşesc, iar mâine cu viermii. Astăzi este, iar mâine nu mai este”, şi îndeamnă la purtare de grijă pentru folosul celor care au răposat: „Să le dăm lor ajutorul ce li se cuvine, adică milostenii şi prinoase, căci aceasta le aduce uşurare, mare câştig şi folos”.
SIMBOLISMUL COLIVEI
Coliva aminteşte de o minune a Sfântului Teodor Tiron, petrecută în vremea împăratului Iulian Apostatul (361-363), care a dat ordin guvernatorului oraşului Constantinopol să stropească toate alimentele din pieţe cu sângele jertfit idolilor, în prima săptămână a Postului Mare, ca astfel să-i oblige pe creştini să întrerupă postul şi să consume jertfe aduse idolilor.
Sfântul Teodor Tiron, apărându-i în vis arhiepiscopului Eudoxie, i-a poruncit acestuia să-i anunţe pe creştini să nu cumpere nimic din piaţă, ci să mănânce grâu fiert cu miere.
Coliva din semințe „arată că şi omul este o sămânţă, un rod al pământului care semănându-se acum în pământ precum grâul iarăşi va învia cu puterea lui Dumnezeu, răsărind în viaţa ce va să fie şi aducându-se viu şi desăvârşit lui Hristos.
Căci precum această sămânţă se îngroapă în pământ, iar după aceea răsare şi aduce mult rod, tot astfel şi omul fiind dat acum pământului prin moarte, iarăşi va învia. Acelaşi lucru îl spune şi Sfântul Apostol Pavel, arătând învierea prin pilda semănăturilor”, spune Sfântul Simeon al Tesalonicului.
Pe lângă colivă, în această zi se împarte mâncare pentru sufletul celor adormiţi, dar şi alte prinoase, lucruri folositoare pentru semenii noştri.

din Sf Munte al Athonului. Este o mare binecuvântare pentru vețuitorii și pelerinii sfintei mănăstiri, ca Maica Domnului să ne cerceteze sufletele. Să o primim cu cinste, pregăți prin sfânta spovedanie și Sfânta Împărtășanie cu Fiul ei și Dumnezeu nostru Iisus Hristos la Dumnezeiasca Liturghie care se va săvârși în această zi la Sf Mănăstire, urmată de Taina Sf. Maslu .

It is a great blessing for the brotherhood and pilgrims of the holy monastery, that the Mother of Orthodox Hawaiian Iveron Icon Association – OHIIAnor, prepared by holy confession and Holy Communion with her Son and our God Jesus Christ at the Divine Liturgy that will be celebrated this day at the Holy Monastery followed by the Holy Sacrament of Unction.

Episcopia Ortodoxă Română a Canadei continuă seria de cursuri catehetice introductive în domeniul biblic – teologic, în istoria, spiritualitatea și cultul Bisericii Ortodoxe.

Ele vor avea loc online pe platforma Zoom în fiecare marți (cu câteva excepții), între orele 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm ET între 8 octombrie 2024 și 25 martie 2025.

Temele propuse sunt următoarele:

  • Istoria creștinismului de la Sinoadele Ecumenice la Reformă– Protos. Maxim Morariu, PhD

O nouă propunere este seria de conferințe (duminică după-amiază / seara – orar de definit):

Cultural-theological and catechetical training center

St. Maximus the Confessor

 

The Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada continues the series of introductory catechetical courses in the biblical-theological field, in the history, spirituality and worship of the Orthodox Church.

They will take place online on the Zoom platform every Tuesday (with a few exceptions) from 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm ET between October 8, 2024 and March 25, 2025.

The proposed topics are as follows:

  • Orthodoxy and Scripture – Fr. Dragoș Giulea, PhD
  • History of Christianity from the Ecumenical Councils to the Reformation – Protos. Maxim Morariu, PhD
  • Catechetical introduction to the theology, spirituality and worship of the Orthodox Church – Adriana Bara, PhD and Fr. Dragoș Giulea, PhD (in English)

A new proposal is the series of conferences (Sunday afternoon / evening – schedule to be defined):

  • Romanian saints – martyrs and confessors (their life and theology)
